Gabe Shurek, CPA/CFF, CVA, CFE Partner, Forensic, Litigation & Valuation Services Co-Leader

Gabe Shurek is a Partner at Grassi and Co-Leader of the firm’s Forensic, Litigation & Valuation Services group. With over 25 years of experience in forensic accounting, fraud detection and business valuation, Gabe has been engaged as a financial consultant by attorneys, financial institutions, insurance companies, trustees, receivers, businesses and individuals to perform services in complex litigation and non-litigation matters. He has managed engagements in various types of federal, state and arbitration settings, including in the areas of ownership disputes, contract disputes, economic damages, fraud investigations, professional liability claims, estate litigation and gift and estate tax filings.

Gabe applies forensic accounting techniques in bankruptcy matters and has represented bankruptcy trustees, creditors’ committees and debtors in assignments such as solvency and preference analysis and investigations into fraudulent transfers. He is approved to accept appointments as an accountant or business appraiser by a receiver or guardian for the counties of Nassau, Suffolk, New York, the Bronx, Kings, Queens and Westchester pursuant to New York State Part 36 of the Rules of the Chief Judge.

Gabe was a contributing author and co-presenter of a 40-hour continuing professional education course sponsored by the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts on data mining techniques and other fraud detection methods. He was also a contributor to the book “Financial Forensics Body of Knowledge”, a comprehensive guide to financial forensics and forensic accounting published by Wiley in 2012.

Before joining Grassi, Gabe was a Partner in Citrin Cooperman’s Valuation and Forensic Services Practice. He has presented several lectures and speaking engagements at professional organizations and government departments, including the New York State Bar Association, Nassau County Bar Association, Suffolk County Bar Association and the Idaho Department of Finance Securities Bureau. Additionally, Long Island Business News recognized Gabe in 2023’s “Who’s Who in Forensic Accounting”.

Gabe has been a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) since 2016 and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) since 2019. He is also a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) since 2012 and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) since 2010, demonstrating his commitment to serving clients as a highly specialized forensic accounting expert.

Gabe is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYCPA), the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA). He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting (cum laude) from Dowling College.
