James McKenna is a Consulting Principal at Grassi, bringing nearly 10 years of experience to the firm. He specializes in the healthcare industry and advises his clients across a range of financial services such as sell-side M&A advisory and business valuations, interim CFO and accounting services and financial operations consulting.

His depth of experience in the business of healthcare enables him to assist clients across a broad range of areas, including quality of earnings, financial planning and analysis, medical practice valuation, fair value opinions and strategic plan development. James also leads the execution of various healthcare consulting projects for hospitals, medical practices, long-term acute care, long-term care facilities and other healthcare providers.

Additionally, James advises healthcare companies on financial restructurings, business plan transformations, performance improvement and liquidity management. He assesses the viability of long-range business plans and identifies and implements initiatives to improve financial performance. James often assists clients in transaction negotiations and develops post-transaction proformas to project revenue and cost synergies. He also routinely develops 13-week cash flow models for interim liquidity management and advises on risk mitigation and strategic scenario planning.

James also has extensive experience delivering financial due diligence (quality of earnings) assessments to strategic corporations and private equity investors. He advises on quantitative deal issues and business operations to support client decisions on buy-side, sell-side and divestiture transactions. James has advised on more than 20 transactions ranging from $100 million to $2 billion across various industries, including hospital systems, physician practice specialties, dental service organizations, biopharma, medical devices, health tech and telemedicine.

As a licensed CPA in the State of New York since 2018, James is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He is also an active member of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).

James graduated from St. John’s University with a Master of Science in accounting and finance and from SUNY Geneseo with a Bachelor of Science in accounting.
