Joseph Vellone, CPA, MBA Principal, International Tax

Joseph Vellone is a Principal in Grassi’s International Tax Services practice based in New York City. He has over 30 years of experience in tax and accounting, encompassing corporate, partnership and international taxation, as well as cross-border transfer pricing.

Joe is experienced with the tax affairs of U.S. and non-U.S. businesses, ranging from multinational corporations to closely held businesses, in tax planning, tax accounting, tax compliance and tax controversy matters. He represents clients in audits and appeals before the IRS, including transfer pricing matters encompassing advanced and competent authority agreements. He is recognized for his innovative solutions to complex tax matters, advising clients on minimizing tax liabilities and optimizing profits and operational processes.

Joe’s clients include a variety of largely international transactions, including corporate acquisitions and mergers, internal restructurings, business formations and joint ventures. His scope includes structuring offshore transactions and implementing inbound and outbound tax structures utilizing tax-favored holding companies, blocker entities and transparent entities.

Before joining Grassi, Joe held senior leadership positions at a Fortune 200, publicly traded global company and a Big 4 firm in New York City. He has authored numerous international tax and M&A articles, including those published in The Tax Adviser, the Journal of Accountancy, Practical Accountant and many others.

Joe is a CPA in New York and Connecticut and an adjunct tax professor in New York City.

Joe received his Bachelor of Science in accounting from Fordham University, where he graduated as a member of Beta Alpha Psi, and a Master of Business Administration in taxation from Pace University, where he graduated with distinction.
