John V. Pellitteri, CPA Partner, Healthcare, Cannabis and Accounting Services Leader

John V. Pellitteri is a Partner at Grassi and leads the firm’s Healthcare and Cannabis Practices. He has over 34 years of experience in accounting, auditing, tax planning and business consulting.

John possesses comprehensive accounting and taxation knowledge, which allows him to provide an all-inclusive assessment of practices and medical facilities. He uses these proven strategies to enhance clients’ businesses across multiple industries, including medical cannabis, nonprofit, architectural, real estate, veterinary and professional services.

John’s extensive experience enables him to help companies navigate the opportunities and challenges of the cannabis industry. Within this evolving industry, John has worked with clients such as medical cannabis dispensaries, cannabis technology companies, cannabis landowners, private equity firms and family offices in this space. John helps guide his clients through complicated regulations and complex tax structures.

John is deeply involved in thought leadership and discussions related to the cannabis industry. He has presented at many of the region’s leading cannabis forums and professional service industry associations. He has spoken multiple times at the AICPA Cannabis Conference, the NYCPA Cannabis Conference, industry panel discussions hosted by Long Island Business News and NJBIZ and the Opal’s Family Office Winter Forum. He has also presented for the New York State Bar Association and the Institute of Management Accountants and is an active supporter of the annual Marijuana Business Conference and Cannabis Expo (MJBizCon), the Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition (CWCBExpo) and CannaGather.

John has authored several articles on cannabis taxation, regulatory compliance and risk management. His insights have appeared in the TaxStringer, The Trusted Professional and other professional publications. He regularly supports the industry by sharing his experience and advice on webinars and podcasts, including Grassi’s own CannaTalk podcast, and is a member of the Long Island Cannabis Coalition.

Additionally, John is a frequent lecturer at healthcare industry forums, including local medical societies, office management societies and hospital councils. He has also authored numerous articles on fraud prevention, human resource issues, compliance and operations, and was the main author of the Financial Success Advisor column in the previously published Nassau/Suffolk Hospital Council Health & Hospital News.

John is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYCPA), where he currently serves on the Executive Board of the Nassau Chapter and previously served on the Federal Taxation Committee and the New York State & Local Taxation Committee. John also serves as Chairman of the Medical and Professionals Committee.

John is active in philanthropic organizations and serves on the board of the Medical Resource Group (MRG) and the Health and Business Alliance (HBA), where he also serves as Treasurer. He was selected as a “40 Under 40 Rising Star” by Long Island Business News in 2005 and is a monthly contributor to the Profit Express Radio Show segment, “The Bottom Line Benefit.”

John received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Hofstra University.
