Grassi Expands Leadership Team with Key Appointments in Tax and Forensic Practices

New York, NY – Grassi, a leading provider of advisory, tax, and accounting services, has expanded its leadership team with the appointment of Brian McCuller, JD, CPA, as Tax Practice Leader; Gabe Shurek, CPA/CFF, CVA, CFE, as Co-Leader and Partner in its Forensic, Litigation & Valuation Practice; and the promotion of William Rust, CPA, to Tax Partner.

These strategic appointments support the continued growth of Grassi’s Tax and Forensic, Litigation & Valuation Practices amidst increasing industry complexity. As the firm expands its resources to continue meeting the needs of businesses and individuals, Grassi remains committed to providing the strategic guidance and specialized expertise clients need to thrive and succeed today.

McCuller joins Grassi after serving as Tax Market Managing Principal at BDO, where he led tax strategy and operations across a multi-state region. With more than 30 years of experience, he has led tax practices at national and regional firms and advised clients, including Fortune 500 and middle-market companies, on complex multi-state and international tax matters.

As Tax Practice Leader, McCuller will guide the strategic direction and growth of Grassi’s Tax Practice, working alongside Jeffrey Cohen, CPA, who moves into the role of Tax Technical Practice Leader. Cohen will leverage his 30 years of experience to provide technical leadership and quality oversight, complementing McCuller’s strategic focus and ensuring the practice maintains depth, consistency, and excellence across engagements.

Shurek joins as Co-Leader and Partner in Grassi’s Forensic, Litigation & Valuation Practice after serving as a Partner at a Top 20 firm and brings more than 25 years of experience advising clients on complex financial disputes, investigations, and valuation matters. His addition expands the firm’s capabilities in forensic accounting, litigation support, and business valuation as clients face increasing transactional complexity and technologically sophisticated financial issues.

William Rust, CPA, has been promoted to Partner, representing the next generation of Tax Leadership at Grassi. With more than 15 years of experience, Rust specializes in serving real estate, construction, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals. Known for his commitment to client success, Rust has played a pivotal role in driving innovation and advancing technology initiatives.

These appointments build on a year of significant growth within the firm and Grassi’s leadership team, which has welcomed new Partners with over 125 years of combined expertise across specialty Tax areas, including state and local taxation, multi-jurisdictional matters, financial services, high-net-worth planning, and real estate.
